PureGlo tops Best Installation category at the Future Energy Yorkshire Excellence Awards

Future Energy Yorkshire Logo PureGlo celebrated success at the recent Future Energy Yorkshire Excellence Awards. The Kirkdale Manor Heating Scheme beat tough competition to scoop the award for Best Installation at the presentation evening held at the Round Foundry in Leeds.

The Kirkdale Manor energy centre is fuelled by wood chip and supplies low carbon central heating and hot water to 9 apartments and 16 houses on the eco-friendly residential development in Nawton which also features a rainwater recycling system.

Richard McLane, who developed the concept for the Kirkdale scheme said: "Many people want to be as environmentally friendly as possible, and that includes living in a 'green' property. We've proved it is possible for developers of older properties to ensure they are eco-friendly".

The energy centre building houses a 250kW boiler which supplies metered hot water and central heating to the individual properties, on demand using a heat distribution network of pre insulated pressurised pipes.

It was a successful evening for Ryedale renewable energy as the award for Innovator of the Year went to Bioflame for their power plant near Pickering which burns locally sourced waste wood to generate electricity for the National Grid.

Helmsley Open Air Swimming Pool switches to green heat

Helmsley Pool Helmsley Swimming Pool is now enjoying green heat and cost savings through a wood pellet boiler system donated by PureGlo Limited

The heated open air pool requires a lot of energy to maintain the water temperature and the old oil burning system was becoming increasingly costly to run due to rising oil prices.

To help reduce heating costs for the pool, a Benekov PL27 wood pellet boiler has been donated by PureGlo as a replacement for the oil burner for the duration of the summer season.

Chris Parkin, who manages the pool, is impressed with the results: "When the existing 20 year old heat exchanger malfunctioned recently, the wood pellet boiler coped tremendously, keeping the pool at a temperature of between 24 and 26 degrees so it stayed open."

He added "The pool is now back up to full temperature and will remain open until 7th September so I would encourage all local residents to come along and make the most of this wonderful outdoor facility".

Money from ticket sales contributes towards the refurbishments which are planned over the next few years and will incorporate renewable energy technologies.
